LG BD570 Review
May 11, 2010
LG continues to impress people with their lineup of electronics each and every year. They come out with new models, fantastic technologies and they do it better than most companies out there. LG has developed the BD570 to satisfy Blu Ray fanatics everywhere and the price is right for the mid-range, offering an impressive level of features and options for the cost involved.
Features
- Built in 802.11N Wi-Fi Networking that Supports Streaming Video Sites Like CinemaNow and YouTube
- Excellent Blu-Ray Image Quality
- BD-P HD BD Live Support
- 7.1 Channel Superior Audio Support
- Instant Open Tray Feature
- Quick Boot Time
- DLNA support
- Support for All of the Most Common File Formats and Codecs
Design
The profile is very slim and sleek. The front panel flips down to allow access to the USB port, the front panel controls and the blu ray drive itself. The Graphical User Interface is slick, featuring an ice cube type graphical design that allows for attractive and easy navigation of the internal dynamics. You will easily be able to fit this unit into any space that is designed to house a standard blu ray player. The machine weighs a total of 7 lbs, which is on course with most other players in its price range.
Remote Control
The remote on this unit is very extensive, featuring a large number of buttons and access to the Blue ray dvd players most accessed features. If you like remotes with a lot of buttons included, you'll love this one. The remote also has a raised center portion, making it easier to find the stop, play and pause functions. The remote has more features than other remotes from similar models in its class.
Performance
The disc load times and boot up speed is just a tiny bit slower than most other players in the same price range by just a hair. Blu ray player consumers who want a higher level of performance for their money may be willing to sacrifice this small delay in load up performance. Most people like this player and it scored quite well in its feedback scores for overall performance levels.
Problems
This product doesn't have 3D Blu-Ray capability. This won't present a problem for the majority of people as this technology is relatively new. It doesn't have the 7.1 analog output that other players have. This won't present a problem for most people either but it's nice to have. Other than that, this player is good!
Overall Opinion
We think this player is a good player option and worth the price. It is an upgraded version of a previous LG blu ray players and handles all of the processing requirements pretty well. You couldn't ask for much more for the price of the machine and there aren't any problems with any of the functions. Most people who own this unit are happy with its performance and overall it's a good buy.

Review: Panasonic DMP BD85K Blu Ray Player
May 11, 2010
Scoring an average of 4/5 to 4.5/5 stars at popular review sites, this specific blu ray player made our list to be reviewed. In the medium price range, listed at $244.45, this unit performs exceptionally well and has features that are on par with more expensive models. Panasonic is well known for producing durable electronics at prices that grace the mid-range. Check out what this player has to offer and compare it to similar models!
Features
- Exceptional Video and Audio Performance
- Wi-Fi Capable With a High Performance Antenna
- Starts Up in Half a Second
- Super Compact Design
- Uses Less Energy Than Comparable Models
- DVD Upscaling
- HDMI 1080 Pixels
- Preloaded Internet Bookmarks
- Dolby TrueHD Sound
- Support For All of the Most Common File Formats
Design
Weighing in at 7 lbs, this unit isn't the lightest around but as you move up in price range, the units usually get heavier. Plus, the blu ray player will be sitting on a shelf for the majority of its life span, so weight is usually not much of an issue. It's sleek, slim and devastatingly attractive.
Remote Control
The remote on this unit is your basic remote with all of the features you would expect. While it isn't backlit, it does provide all the functionality you have come to know and love about high quality blu ray players. You don't have to angle the remote in order to gain a good connection with the unit and signal strength is wonderfully high.

Performance
Streaming movies from sites like Netflix and Blockbuster are delivered flawlessly. There are never any problems with the Wi-Fi functionality if you have a strong signal connection. The 1080 pixel and upscaling features work well and deliver on their promise to engage you in a cinematic quality experience. The start up time is really impressive, clocked at nearly half a second but it's the audio quality that has many owners of this DVD player head over heels. Dolby TrueHD sound can be delivered through a multi-channel interface and the unit has all of the connection ports needed to give you a true surround sound experience. The visual portion of the DVD playing experience is incredible as well, giving users a full 1080 pixel resolution count.
Problems
On North American models, the DLNA feature is not available. Some blu ray player fanatics will have a problem with this and some won't. Your average blu ray consumer won't have in issue with it though. There are not a lot of video and audio Internet sites listed in the preloaded menus. While this isn't a big deal for the technically savvy, novice users may find the number of choices lacking.
Overall Opinion
We strongly believe this blu ray dvd player is a great option for the mid-range. It isn't a budget player but isn't a luxury model either. As far as quality goes, this blu-ray player is definitely worth being taken into consideration. Panasonic is legendary for creating quality electronics at an affordable price and this unit is no exception. All in all, this blu-ray dvd player is a fantastic buy, plain and simple.

Samsung BD C6900 Blu Ray Player Review
May 10, 2010
Priced at around $359.99, depending on where you shop, this blu ray player is in the mid-range when it comes to the affordability factor. If you are looking for a standard mid-range blu ray player to purchase and don't care much about which model you get, this may be an option for you. Others in its price range are more suitable for purchase and have a higher level of performance and compatibility but if it doesn't matter much to you this may be an option. We don't dislike this player; there are just better models out there for the price you pay.
Features
The BD-C6900 has all of the standard features you would expect to find in a mid-range priced blu-ray player:
- Support for the Following DVD Formats: CD DVD BD-R CD-R BD-RE CD-RW DVD+R DVD-R BD-ROM DVD+RW DVD-RW
- Internet Streaming Service Supporting Blockbuster, Flickr, Facebook, Netflix, Pandora, Twitter and YouTube.
- Slim Design and Clear Cover
- Loads Disc in 15 Seconds.
- Boots Up in 15 Seconds.
- Wi-Fi Enabled.
- 3D Supported.
- BD-Live Ready.
- Allshare DLNA Connection Support.
- Wireless LAN Built In.
- 1080 Pixel Resolution.
Design
The design of the BD C6900 is slim and sleek. It is somewhat larger in dimensions than some of the other players, which could prove to be a disadvantage when trying to fit it into tight spaces. It weighs a total of 7 pounds, so users in need of a feather weight blu ray player should consider other options. However, if weight is not a concern, this blu ray player is quite attractive.
Remote Control
The remote has all the standard features you would expect to find on a mid-range priced model, but it isn't something incredibly spectacular. Users who need a fully featured remote with every available function accessible in a button need to look elsewhere.
Performance
This system boots up in 15 seconds, which is a good speed for the features it offers. Rated at 3/5 to 3.5/5 starts at several popular review sites, this model has turned out to not be something you would write home about. It does, however, handle a wide range of blu ray formats with more than acceptable picture quality.
Problems
There aren't any inherent problems with Samsung BD C6900; there are just better options out there. Blu ray players in the same class from other manufacturers might be a more suitable purchase. Higher end players from Samsung may be a likely purchase for people who demand the utmost in high performance perfection.
Overall Opinion
Our overall opinion of BD C6900 is neutral. We are neither for nor against it. We do recommend that you check out some other blu ray player options before dedicating your purchasing power to this one. Other products in the same price range have the same features but perform much better. 15 seconds is a long time to wait for your disc to load up, every time. Other players in the same price range can do it in half a second. But this player will get the job done if you are absolutely in love with the feature set.
