LG BD570 Review
May 11, 2010
LG continues to impress people with their lineup of electronics each and every year. They come out with new models, fantastic technologies and they do it better than most companies out there. LG has developed the BD570 to satisfy Blu Ray fanatics everywhere and the price is right for the mid-range, offering an impressive level of features and options for the cost involved.
Features
- Built in 802.11N Wi-Fi Networking that Supports Streaming Video Sites Like CinemaNow and YouTube
- Excellent Blu-Ray Image Quality
- BD-P HD BD Live Support
- 7.1 Channel Superior Audio Support
- Instant Open Tray Feature
- Quick Boot Time
- DLNA support
- Support for All of the Most Common File Formats and Codecs
Design
The profile is very slim and sleek. The front panel flips down to allow access to the USB port, the front panel controls and the blu ray drive itself. The Graphical User Interface is slick, featuring an ice cube type graphical design that allows for attractive and easy navigation of the internal dynamics. You will easily be able to fit this unit into any space that is designed to house a standard blu ray player. The machine weighs a total of 7 lbs, which is on course with most other players in its price range.
Remote Control
The remote on this unit is very extensive, featuring a large number of buttons and access to the Blue ray dvd players most accessed features. If you like remotes with a lot of buttons included, you'll love this one. The remote also has a raised center portion, making it easier to find the stop, play and pause functions. The remote has more features than other remotes from similar models in its class.
Performance
The disc load times and boot up speed is just a tiny bit slower than most other players in the same price range by just a hair. Blu ray player consumers who want a higher level of performance for their money may be willing to sacrifice this small delay in load up performance. Most people like this player and it scored quite well in its feedback scores for overall performance levels.
Problems
This product doesn't have 3D Blu-Ray capability. This won't present a problem for the majority of people as this technology is relatively new. It doesn't have the 7.1 analog output that other players have. This won't present a problem for most people either but it's nice to have. Other than that, this player is good!
Overall Opinion
We think this player is a good player option and worth the price. It is an upgraded version of a previous LG blu ray players and handles all of the processing requirements pretty well. You couldn't ask for much more for the price of the machine and there aren't any problems with any of the functions. Most people who own this unit are happy with its performance and overall it's a good buy.

Great Blu-ray player
DVD Upconversion presented great images. Watched some of the new blu-ray titles in the last few weeks, and the image quality is great and much better than standard DVD quality. Avatar is a must! The Netflix streaming service works very well; not HD quality but close to DVD quality I would say. It is very convenient and easy to use. YouTube is pretty convenient as well, but a little hard to search for videos with the on-screen keyboard. Wish the remote control had a subtitle button on it instead of having to go through the menu to activate subtitles. It is also great to be able to view pics and listen to music stored on my PC through our wireless network. By the way, wireless network setup was quite easy and straightforward; just have all of your network info ready when you perform this step. Overall a great Blu-ray player and am very happy with it so far.

Return to Sender
I did some research on Amazon and Consumer Reports before purchasing the LG BD 570 and was feeling pretty confident that I was purchasing a reliable machine. Unfortunately, my experience with this blu ray player couldn’t have been worse. The machine froze up multiple times, the remote control was unresponsive and the internet connection was repeatedly dropped. It’s going back in the box. Going to try a Panasonic. Maybe I just got a lemon, but you can be assured that I will never purchase a LG product again.

Excellent, fully featured media center!
This really is a fully realized product.
Incredible media center. Hook it up and it just works. I was able to set it up streaming media files from a usb drive hooked up to my airport extreme router in about two minutes. Got netflix up and running in about the same time. Picture quality is great, remote is fine, interface is snappy and clean.
LG is one of those companies that I’ve never given much thought to, but this is an excellent, well-designed product that is certainly competitive in its class.
Two minor quibbles: The remote only has codes for a handful of TV’s, so my panasonic plasma could not be programmed to work with it. This is disappointing as it’d be GREAT to have just one remote, but alas, that does not see possible in contemporary society.
Second quibble, I bought the bd550 before this as I didn’t need the wireless and was disappointed that the BD550 does not have the DNLA feature to access content on your own server or computer. Also the BD550 does not play movie files from an external usb flash drive. The BD570 does both of those things. These are both simple software features and have nothing to do with the hardware you’re buying, so it’s kind of cynical to make you pay $100 for a $10 internal wifi dongle and a couple of software tweaks.
But that aside I”m glad I waited this long to get a blu ray player. I feel like it’s truly a digital hub.

Extremely nice
Very easy to set up.Have only used it for streaming videos and music from Netflix,Youtube,Pandora so far.Picture quality is outstanding, flawless performance on a 10 year old Akai plasma tv. Would buy it again in a heartbeat.Amazon price ,as usual, was great with free shipping

Full features for $200+, I can’t complain
For $200+, it has all features (almost, if adding a hard drive and digital tuner to become a DVR) that I like:
- Up scaling regular DVD and play blu-ray beautifully
- Netflix streaming and Pandora/internet radio work smoothly
- I see no issue or slowness with wi-fi accessing my wireless-N router
- I’m surprise that LG included the Nero Media server software. It installed
and worked well on my Vista machine. BD570 and my fat Sony PS3 recognized
the Media server. Both myMovies and myMusic collections streamed smoothly from
Vista to PS3 and BD570
- Hook it up to a digital receiver and love its multi channels digital sound.
- Loading, starting up times are acceptable to me (not the fastest nor the slowest)
Things that I don’t like are the remote to control my Sony TV.
- I would have to sequentially cycle thru. the inputs. very limited and basic
buttons to control the TV.
- Limited number of TV brands that LG remote can configure for
Again, for $200+ I’m happy and it’s a keeper for me. The DLNA and wi-fi (without the
need for dongle) features worth $60+ more than bd550.

Lemon!
I just purchased the blu ray BD570 unit. I plugged into my LED TV and it worked OK. I tried to update via network and it failed to do so. I then watched my first blu ray movie at 1080p without any issues. After I finished playing the movie I was going to try to update but was not able to access update with disc inside, so I took the disc out. The unit then did not update and did not show anything on screen, now I can’t get back to the home screen. I turned it off holding 5 seconds and have even unplugged the unit for 20 seconds, but it powers on but shows absolutely nothing on the TV, not even red dots when loading. All I get is the permanent HELLO welcome in the unit dash. Definate Lemon…LG…nice features, bad quality.

Don’t Buy for MP3/Photo/Video Playback
Why Did I Buy This Player:
First Blue Ray players are common and there are not that many differences in the actual playing of a Blue Ray disc. I bought this player over others primarily to view photos and play music from a USB drive and replace a standard DVD Player and Roku Soundbridge (digital Music player). I wanted to put my music and pics on a USB drive and not have to have to leave my PC on or turn it on every time I wanted to play MP3s. Second I bought this for access to Netflix & Picasa. Lastly, I would get the Blue Ray capability as a bonus in the same box and have no need for a separate DVD player.
To be honest I didn’t even try out Netflix or the Blue Ray/DVD player because of the short comings in the other areas.
Set Up:
Setting up the player was easy. Lots of options are provided and it took very little to connect to my WIRED network and download firmware upgrades. Options are significant for different resolution outputs (good for 1080i TVs) and for connecting through a AV Receiver.
Home Link:
Set up was easy and the player recognized my Windows 7 PC without having to install the Nero MediaHome Essentials CD.
USB Drive:
The player provided enough power to the USB port to power a small portable USB hard drive that does not have its own power supply. The player will read FAT16, FAT32, and NTFS formatted drives however it does not support NTFS when using BD-Live or Audio CD recording. Not a huge deal because you can reformat the drive using FAT32 instead of NTFS.
MP3 Limitation:
The player will NOT read MP3 ID3 tags (verified by documentation in the manual). This means the player cannot read the Artist, Album, Track, Cover Art, Lyrics, or anything else in the MP3 File for display on the TV. This limitation exists for both MP3 files on a USB Drive and on a PC accessed via Home Link. Unfortunately this is a show stopper yet is so easy to implement.
Playing Music via the USB Connection:
The player will not recognize Play Lists stored on the USB Drive even when the Folder Structure was not changed from the initial hard drive. The only way to play music is to go to a folder and play all music in that folder. Another show stopper as without this you will need to create a folder of all the music you want to play for a party or an event and then copy each song to that folder on your USB Drive.
Viewing Photos via the USB Connection:
Photo viewing worked well off of the USB drive or Home Link. You can play music at the same time you are playing a slide show which is really nice but again, you cannot play music from a Play List.
Home Link:
Viewing photos and playing music from Home Link works like you are playing music or viewing photos from the PC directly. You can use Play Lists for Music, tags and playlists for photos and you can play music (including Play Lists) while playing a Photo Slide Show. Unfortunately the player will not display the MP3 ID3 Tag information as noted above.
Picasa:
Picasa worked well but you the option to play music from the USB drive does not exist when viewing Picasa albums.
Summary:
Since the player won’t recognize Play Lists the USB Drive is useless. However, since the player will not show the MP3 ID3 tags this player is worse than my Roku music server (it shows artist/title). Other DVD players will play Netflix at a lower price so this one is going back.

Best so far…
I have tried the Sony BX57 Bluray player before this. The BD570 outcompetes them all with a robust feature set. Being able to play almost all of the media formats is a big plus. It plays MKV and Divx, another plus. I have watched Avatar bluray on the player and it loaded the movie in about 20 seconds. That may be slower than the other players, but it does not bother me. The quality is awesome. The upconverted DVDs also look great.
For some reason Divx menus do not work when playing divx files.
Unlike the other reviewer who had mentioned that it is not possible to fast forward from USB –> that is not true. I am able to FF and rewind, it is just that it is choppy. I suspected that it is related to the read speed from the USB drive.
So far I have plugged into a lacey 500 GB drive and that works fine.
WiFI setup was a breeze with WPS. i use a Netgear WNR3500L-100NAS and that works beautifully. No more dropped connections and Netflix HD streaming is awesome. I had the Belkin N+ router before the netgear and that dropped connections incessantly. Netgear and BD570 were meant to be together.

Poor remote and wireless connection
Delivered in no time by Amazon. Great DVD quality play back. Poor wireless connections – very choppy playback. I have a Cinema Tube (Briteview) wireless unit connected to the same TV. Using the same wireless network and alternating devices ( LG and Cinema Tube) the 720p playback on CT is excellent, but on LG is very poor. Netflix at times is choppy as well. It would be nice if they update the software and improve the wireless connections. My biggest issue is the remote design. The “wheel” is recessed and has no edges. Trying to press up and down buttons to select the letters you can’t feel the edge with your finger and can’t tell when you start pressing the buttons located below. Overall for the price is a decent player.

What to look for in a Blu-ray Disc Player
I just bought this LG BD570 Network Blu-Ray Disc (BD) Player for S. on his birthday. I normally wouldn’t do so much research on a product, but this had to perfect. Here’s what I learned:
1. Quality – Guy at BestBuy told me that all BD Players in comparable price ranges have comparable quality, with the exception of Panasonic, that has slightly better quality. However, we only have a 780p TV, so the slightly higher quality (questionable) from Panasonic would make no difference. Our LG player looks great. Watched a few BDs from Netflix and just got Avatar, they look sharp. At first it’s hard to tell the difference until a great landscape scene appears. Or try switching back down to low res and you’ll see. This player, like many others, upconverts DVDs to slightly better quality. (Note that to use Netflix with your BD Player you need a) a Netflix subscription, and b) a $2/month BD add-on (if you want to rent BDs).
2. Speed – All BD players have a lag time between disc insertion and play that is longer than your typical DVD player’s lag time. Guy at Best Buy told me that Panasonic tends to have shorter lag times (for the record, at Best Buy Panasonic cost exactly the same as all the other BD Players). This LG player definitely has a lag time, but it’s not long enough to really be annoying. Usually I just hit the power on the BD player right before the power on the TV and they both turn on at the same time.
3. Compatibility – All BD players should play on all TVs. That being said, the remote control of an LG player will only work with the LG player and LG TVs. So we need to hold onto our Sony TV remote too.
4. Net features – The LG edged out the competition because it has Netflix and Pandora streaming. Turns out to be a pretty big deal– we don’t pay for TV, so watching Netflix on the big screen is way nicer than watching it on our laptops. Though now it turns out our Wii could stream Netflix and our XBox 360, with an XBox Live subscription, could too. Actually, just about any BD player would stream Netflix at great quality.
The real advantage is Pandora. Listening to Pandora through the BD player you never get the ‘Are you still there?’ interruption, nor do you ever get ads. The down side is that you also can never just fast forward through a song– the only way to skip it is to Zzz it (so it doesn’t play for a month) or give it a thumbs down (so it doesn’t play again ever). Only thing that would have edged out Pandora at this point would have been Hulu streaming. Free TV? Yes, please.
Other great net feature is accessing our media libraries on our computers through the BD player’s Home Link (DNLA compatible PCs/devices). I haven’t yet figured out how to make playlists, but the BD player will play entire folders of music quite nicely.
Firmware updates are found automatically. That’s nice. Sometimes it needs two restarts after a firmware update. That’s ok.
5. WiFi – Useless for us, I wish I hadn’t paid for it. Our TV is right next to our router anyway, and if we had cable TV we’d have a cable running to the TV anyway. So, useless. May as well just have a cabled connection. If you buy a BD Player without WiFi and later decide you want WiFi you’ll need to buy a special card for around $80. So I figured that for an extra $60 it was worth just getting the integrated WiFi, and yet, that’s still $60 that I’m not using at all.
6. Ease of use – I tried out the award-winning Sony interface at the Sony store. It really is quite slick. The LG interface is similarly easy to use. Only thing I don’t like, which may just be a setting I’ve overlooked, is that if there is a disk in the player it will automatically start playing rather than let me listen to Pandora or whatnot instead.
All in all, I’m happy with this LG. It’s been reliable, is my favorite platform for listening to Pandora, and looks great. More importantly, S. likes it too.

LG Blu-ray Player
This is an excellent Blu-ray player with WiFi. Plays Blu-ray and dvd disc with great clarity and vivid color. Connects to internet and Netflix quickly and with great results. The price for the features offered is very reasonable. Very satisfied with this player. Recommend it.

Access All Netflix, Not Just Your Queue
I’ve had a BD570 for about a month. Its in a secondary TV room, so we’ve only watched a few disks on it, but I’ve been very happy so far. Set up and firmware updates were a breeze. We also use it for streaming Netflix over a wireless connection, and noted that the LG does a nice job of organizing the movies.
We have access to a wide range of movies and they’re organized by “Our Netflix Queue”, “Drama”, “Sci-Fi”, “Family & Children”, etc. This is a great feature vs. some of the other Netflix Streaming products, which only let you access movies that are in your Netflix Queue.

good media, below average interface
I love the UPnP/DLNA and multimedia playback off of external USB drives. Pandora, Picasa, and Netflix streaming is awesome. The interface is slow to the point that sometimes I think the remote didn’t work. The floating ice cube main menu is a bit strange. I’m not a DVD upconversion expert, but I wasn’t that impressed with how the image looked. A little grainy, I think.

Great Picture an easy to set up
This blu-ray player has everything I needed. There is a higher end model with a hard drive, but I already had a cable DVR. The wifi was easy to set up and I have not had any problems with it to date. I would recommend it to my friends.

Highly recommended, after initial problems
Got the player, hooked it up and played a Blu-Ray movie. 1 hour in the machine went back to the home screen. Restarted the movie & it didn’t go back to the same place, started over. The longer the player was on the more it happened. The player was extremely hot. I sent it back & got a replacement. No problems with the new player.
The only issue I had was setting up the wireless. I use a strong password (upper case, lower case & numbers) on my wireless network. There is no way to enter anything but lower case letters for the password on the player. I had to change my network setup in order to use the player. Hopefully they’ll address this with a future software update.
I have been using the player for a few weeks now and everything has been great. The picture quality is excellent, the remote is easy to use. I stream Netflix movies regularly and the quality is great. I was worried about that using the wireless but it hasn’t been a problem.
I can forgive the first player, that stuff happens. Based on player I have now i highly recommend the BD570.

Mystery audio issues
This was my first Blu-ray player purchase, and I wish it had worked out well. My issue was that anything played over HDMI from this player (Blu-ray, Netflix, DVD) gets audio distortion after it’s been playing a while (anywhere from 20 to 40 mins). I tried multiple programs through Netflix, Defiance and New Moon Blu-rays, and The Hurt Locker on DVD that all had the same issue. Curiously enough The Dark Knight played fine, but 1 out of 3 Blu-rays playing correctly isn’t going to cut it.
I think I went above and beyond as a consumer to try to fix the issue. Keep in mind I’m no Blu-ray or audio home theatre expert, but I think I covered all the bases. I made sure the player’s firmware was up to date. I swapped out the HDMI cable, same issue. I went through all the audio and some of the display options one by one without any luck. I changed audio settings on my TV (a 1080p Vizio bought hardly a month ago), no dice. I hooked the player up to a significantly older 720p Vizio which seemed to work fine, weirdly enough, but I didn’t buy it to work with that TV. Also, it worked with the RCA cables (oh boy!). I hooked up a PS3 to the TV and the audio played flawlessly through an entire Blu-ray movie (one of the ones the LG had issues with), confirming my belief that the issue is not the HDMI cable or the TV. Thinking I had a bad unit, I returned it to Best Buy and exchanged it for another LG BD570 only to experience issue deja-vu. As a last ditch effort, I called LG customer support who, over the course of two different calls, had me fiddle some settings and then declared that they had no idea what the issue was and that I would need to send the unit in for service…right. So the LG BD570 is going to be returned again, and I’ll go with a Sony instead.
However, aside from the unsolvable audio issues, I enjoyed everything else about the player. It’s just too bad I like to hear my movies too.

Amazing
I knew I’d get great quality video, audio and adaptability to other services (Netflix, etc;) but the interface with my main PC was an unexpected joy.
Thru the built in WiFi I can access my photos AND recorded videos.
TV I record on my PC plays great (using TV tuner card) Hauppauge 1213 WinTV-HVR-2250 Dual Hybrid PCI-E TV Tuner Board with Media Center Remote Control and Receiver and I wonder who really needs to pay for TiVo!
We waited for this one and it was worth it.

Fantastic so far!
Just picked this up as an upgrade to my BD370. Biggest difference is the wireless connectivity and the ability to play many more formats and access my NAS box for content.
Here is a brief summary after an hour playing around with the unit.
Video Quality
Excellent. The 1080p upscaling on NetflixHD and DVD’s is amazing. (I’m connected to a plasma display via HDMI)
Internet Services
Netflix works really well. You can also browse titles that aren’t in your queue so its you don’t have to add from another PC which is good. Access to VUDU HD and Roxio on demand, Pandora, Picasa and weather are nice additional features.
Content Format Support
This player has fantastic content support – much better than my BD370. Its able to play most everything I’ve thrown at it from vobs ripped from DVD’s to home video (AVCHD/AVI) to MKV’s, MPED and DIVx. The only problem I’ve had is with JPG’s larger than 4gb.
Internet Connectivity
Both wired and wireless connectivity are easy to manage and so far, work flawlessly. The wireless has fewer hiccups than my laptop from the same place.
Network Connectivity
This was a little tricky. DLNA from my ReadyNAS doesn’t seem to work properly, I don’t see all the folders – this could be a configuration issue. To be fair, I only spent about 10 minutes on this.
CIFS works flawlessly, but it took me a while to figure out that the CIFS login the player asks for is the share name, and the password is the share password (if you have one).
Other than that, I’m very pleased with this aspect – I’m able to play all sorts of content from my NAS box. Then menu’s can be a little cumbersome to maneuver through, but thats to be expected – after all, this is sold primarily as a blu ray player!
Remote
Seems a little on the flimsy side, but works well enough. It was easy to program to control my plasma display as well.
Overall, I highly recommend this player, its surpassed my expectations on almost every front!

Great replacement for the BD390
I bought this as a replacement for a BD390 which I loved but, decided to stop reading discs.
The BD570 is an excellent replacement with one complaint. It seems to have trouble playing certain mkv files. When I play these files, the BD570 immediately freezes up and I have to pull the power cord to get it going again. This is strange as I was able to play these files on the BD390 with no problem. I am hoping that LG will fix this with a firmware update.
I really like the capability of playing media on the LG that I have shared on my PC. LG by far makes playing my files from the PC through my network as simple as possible.
Having access to you tube and Accuweather on my LG is a big bonus as well.
DVDs look and sound great.

Overall a Great device, but has some issues
This device has great image quality and very good support for a variety of video/audio formats. But the interface feels kind of slow when moving around, and has some problems reading subtitles from specific MKV files. The good thing is that LG is always releasing software updates via internet, and may fix the problem eventually.
The Picture Quality for Blu-rays and for video files are Superb. It can read MKV, DivX HD, MP4 (not .mov though) and a lot more with ease, with its respective external subtitles with no problem most of the time.
The Wi-Fi atribute and extras in this Device are excellent add-ons, and it also supports Flash Drives and HDD Drives via USB 2.0 with no problems at all. It has no internal storage memory, instead you need to plug-in a USB Flash drive so the BD-Live features could be downloaded and played correctly.
This is overall a very good BD player, just with some issues that I hope LG could solve some day.
I would recommend it for most users.

Excellent BD Player with wireless streaming capabilities
First let me state that I do nothing (I’ll use the term) exotic with the player such as attempting to play self created MKV files (whatever those are) or avi files or connect an HD to the player. My 570 player came defaulted to the 60 Hz format vice 24 and it is connected directly to the TV using HDMI and I’ve experienced zero problems playing Blu-ray disks. Some have reported problems when the player is set to 24 Hz but changing the player to 60 Hz seems to correct those issues. For the record I own, and am delighted with, an LG BD390 which I’ve owned for some 15 months or so. I’ve owned the BD570 for about 8 weeks now and the only hiccup I’ve had with it whatsoever was getting Vudu activated on the BD570 and a two minute telephone call to Vudu corrected that issue. I’ve played a number of Blu-ray DVDs as well as SD format DVDs and have not experienced problems and I judge the 570′s ability to upscale SD format disks to something approach HD as being very good. I will note however that I’ve not tried the Blu-ray movies “Up” or “Terminator Salvation” which according to some reports give the player a problem. We have streamed numerous Netflix movies and we’ve not even experienced any buffering – although I did experience that happen on the 390 once with an HDX formatted movie. We’ve not streamed a lot of movies from Vudu but the few that we have I’ve not experienced any buffering over a wireless network from Verizon’s FiOS 25/15 service. In summary we are delighted with the 570 and I see no difference in picture quality between it and the 390 and it streams just like the 390. Other than the much smaller footprint and the menu system being somewhat expanded on the 570 the two players seem essentially identical for my purposes. I think both the 390 and the 570 are quality products.

chase away your blues
Easy setup. Seamless match with my LG 47″ LCD TV. Great upscaling, fast load time for blue ray discs. No worries with netflix streaming.

buggy or just bad interface
It was easy to setup, even the Netflix streaming. But it seems a bit buggy, even after I did the update. For example, you may want to go to the main menu, but if there’s a blu ray in the drive you must wait until it reads it, even if you want to play from another source (reallllly annoying). Then if there is an error (a fingerprint) on the disc, the unit will simply shut down or will eject the disc. There seems to be no logic.
The “screen saver” feature doesnt work if the disc is left at the main menu. Bad design. The eject button and the drop open door are also not very friendly.
Again, I did the update and the software is just not very well designed. Even the huge delay when going between items in the main menue. Just silly.
Yes the Netflix part is cool, but the unit is too buggy for my taste. I guess I’ll try the Sony next…

WOW
Wow I amazed!!! I’ve been up for 3 nights testing this with other blu ray players and I really like this one.
I’ve lived with Panasonic bd30. I never really got addicted to it because it never had a pop to it. But the advertisements said it had accurate color and the best at it’s time. Well I picked up a panasonic bmd 65 and lg 550. After having those two next to eachother I was blown away with the LG It was so much sharper and the colors were much brighter. Finally I found what I’ve been seeing in the stores But there was one thing with the 550 it was a digital coax output and I wanted the opitical. I can tell the difference.
I went out and got the bd 570 and I’m in love. I’ve watched Hair Spray the last verson of Rocky, silence of the lambs. in Blu Ray and I couldn’t be happier. I tried some DVD’s Star Trek (oringnal) the color was so deep and picture was very detailed. It was so bright I felt like a strain in my eyes. So I put in in my panasonic It looked more triditional the colors were there but not as bright and the picture was not as detailed. It’s like lg makes these old disks look blu ray. I next tried the Flintstones in the panasonic it looked like how i expected very triditional I was afraid to put in the LG but you know what it looked great it’s sharper and the color is much brighter and i’m beginning to like it. I think I have to get use to it.
Today i put in All in the family in both players. There is less noise in the panasonic but once again it’s duller and the color is not as bright. This is what I got use to. I (owned the panasonic for 2 years dmp 30) But when I put all in the family in the LG and you can see the details and the picture is much sharper which I guess would show the imprefctions of an analog picture A little more. I did see the analog in prefections in the panasonic but it was not as pronouced thats becuase picture is duller and Once again I beginning to like the LG because the pciture is much more detailed and brighter and so is the color.
On newer movies I put in Trading places (still old in this day and age but it was 100 times better quality than all in the family.) the movie played well On both Blu Ray players. Again the picures was sharper on the lg. I couldn’t notice the jaggy lines as I did on all in the family. I’m sure this player will good for all around purposes even DVD’s
Just to go back in time I put in the Honeymooners It actaully looks good in the LG. I’m happy. Yes I had to set noise reduction on my tv. but that is normal for this kind of DVD. But the picture actually looks great
I couldn’t be happier with the LG bd 570. The panasonic may look a little more natural and has less jaggie lines on older dvds but not my much. but the Lg is real sharp and bright so that compensates and you can always put on noice reduction or lower the sharpness. But one you get use to it I really like it. On blu Ray LG blows Panasonic away. (As Im writing this I’m watching trading places and I’m starting to like this better the colors and sharpness is great and really adds to the picture quality. i’d say once I get use to this the DVD will beat the panasonic.
On Blue Ray and Dvd I’M experiening a little discomfort because the whites are so bright. I also have a pioneer Tv where I have the best blacks. So I think I might have to lower the contrast a little But in any case I think after I get used to this I will like the color and whites a bit better. Because the picture is so much more pronouced.
As far as Netflix and all the other on line stuff that works great on the 550 I’m sure it will work the same on this. I just got so blown away with the picture compaired to my old blu ray player that I actually forgot about online but I can’t wait to play with it.
I would recomend this unit highly.
I love this unit. buy it.
UPDATE I’VE HAD THIS UNIT FOR ABOUT A WEEK 4/7/10
I’m going to talk about the streaming. I like it but you have to adjust it. Wirelessly it’s enough to streem netflix and it’s not bad, but at least for this model it’s slow to connect to netflix. wirelessly like 30 sec. (before I made adjustments) wired It connects like in 10-15 sec even though my router is N draft 1 and draft 2 (2.4 and 5 gig) The internal wireless adapter can only recive a 2.4 singal which only amounts to 150 mbps max. Vs draft 2 which is 300 max. Due to the fact I have wep enabled for my wireless G printer that only slows things down more. Strangly enough the BD 550 connected faster but that was wired. So I wired this one and it was better but not as fast as the 550. My computer is super fast so I can figure the processor is slower or something is wrong with the unit. in any case it does not loose singal in Netflix. wired. as far as Wirelessly It did once or twice.
Today I tried Vundu that is an awsum servce 1080P movies. But they get you for for like $5.00 per rental. As a tech I had to try it. On my free trial it connected very fast (even faster than netflix so humm? anyway while watching the movie it kept on buffering while hooked up wired. After getting off the phone with support I opened some ports and on my own I made the Blu Ray player static. It was a lot better for real!! but I kept checking the bar and it was up and down. So I decided to try Cat6 cable (please don’t buy it at radio shack or staples like I did) but I was tired. Vundu is solid now.
There is a part of me that says I’d like to try another machine with the same model to see about this buffering issue or netflix issue but it does not affect the movie and I’m working great now. I LOVE EVERYHING ELSE ABOUT THIS MACHINE. the color is great, the moves looks good, the quality of netflix is good Pandora (internet radio is great) I’m really liking playing DVD’s and Blu Rays in this machine 5 stars.
IF SOMONE CAN COMMENT ABOUT THE CONNECTION TO NETFLIX WIRED OR WIRELESS i’D APPRECATE IT. I’m probley not going to try another machine since I got this one working and I’m tired or testing and benchmarking LOL
