This is the first BluRay I've had and I hate it. I got a good deal (I thought) at Costco then had to buy a specific wireless connection apparatus. It takes anywhere from 2 - 20 minutes to play a movie or connect to NetFlix. 80% of the time it says it cannot find a connection and I start over and over and over and over until eventually it works - or else I get so frustrated I stop and try again weeks later when I can stand to face it again. It's horrible.

I bought the DMP-BD60 because I like Panasonic's reknowned reliability and quality. I've owned Panasonic equipment all my life and everything's worked for 20 years + just like the day I bought it (before upgrading of course). I've always given my old Panasonic gadgets away to others because I've upgraded and the existing stuff worked too perfectly to just throw it away. I've had Panasonic CD players, DVD players, TV's, head units for cars and do not have one complaint. Their equipment is user friendly, high quality and it's made to last a life time. When I first hooked the blu-ray player up to my 42 inch 720p Panasonic Viera Plasma TV, I was blown away by the picture and sound quality. I've got a pair of Sony $60 (Australian) headphones and the BD sound quality through those is very clear.

When it comes to TV's and players don't buy other brands of crap, such as LG or Samsung as they're generic rubbish. The quality is less than Panasonic and the picture quality is not up to scratch as well.

Stay Away!

This Blu Ray player wasn't even worth the cheap price we paid for it! We wanted a back up Blu Ray player for the kids so we bought this one for $140 or so. It worked for 2 weeks before it began freezing up. Then, the TV wouldn't recognize the connection and we determined the HDMI port on the player was faulty.

I returned the player to Panasonic. One week later, I called to get a status update and was told they never received it. One call to FedEx proved that wasn't the case so I called again. This time, the rep told me they had received it but hadn't assigned a technician to work on it yet. I was furious they had it for a week and hadn't done a thing yet. My doorbell rang so I hung up and went to the door. The UPS man handed me a box from Panasonic. Imagine my surprise when I opened it to find my Blu Ray player. I was actually happy the idiots in customer service were wrong and I immediately hooked up the player for the kids.

Now, it wouldn't even turn on. This has been a great learning experience for me. Not only will I never again buy from Panasonic, but I will stick to real electronic companies who care about customer service.

I had an issue with the player sometimes "freezing up" in the middle of a movie. Once I upgraded the firmware the problem disappeared. The latest firmware version is 2.2 release 11/30/09.

I also have the same problem that the unit frezzes up sometimes in the middle of a movie. Only way to get it to work is do a hard shut down and then restart the movie again.
Anyobe have a answer??

My player freezes up on occasion, it's not the disc's, ran a quality scan on all disc's and they were fine, also they all played in other players, some people on Amazon board had this problem, and is supposed to be linked to the firmware. the latest is 2.2 I believe.Has anyone else had this problem?

I bought this when my 37" Olevia LCD went out on me after 2 years. Thought I would go with a name brand TV this time. I too was looking for LCD's but noticed how much better the picture was on the Panasonic Plasma's. The price wasn't much different either. I settled on the TC-P42S1 and absolutely love it. It was an easy setup and it has many features you can tweak to make the picture perfect for your room.

Hey everyone,

I'm thinking of buying this blu-ray player, I only have one problem
with it...
I'm well aware that it doesn't have Analog 5.1 or 7.1 Audio Outputs,
but can it Output 5.1 anyway using the Optical Audio Out?

That's my only concern, because I think the BD80 is not worth it
only because it has 7.1 Analog Output. I would rather buy BD60
and then buy a Set of 5.1 Speakers with Optical Audio Input.

Thanks in Advance.
