Samsung BD C6500 Review
May 19, 2010
One of the four Blu ray players to be announced at 2010 CES, the Samsung BD C6500 got lost in the hoopla surrounding the ultra slim BD C7500 and BD C6900. Along with entry level model, BD C5500, the BD C6500 represents the mainstream Blu ray player for the Samsung Corporation. Samsung’s previous generation players had no major flaws or weakness. Instead of resting on their laurels, Samsung adds more performance increases as well as extra features not found on previous players.

Features
The Samsung BD C6500 is a BD-LIVE compatible player. Both Profile 1.1 and Profile 2.0 features can be accessed without any problems. All the audio formats can be decoded natively without the help of a receiver. High definition audio formats DTS-HD and Dolby TrueHD are both decoded natively via the onboard decoder. All the internet streaming contents can be accessed via Internet@TV feature on the player. The Internet@TV includes Blockbuster, Netflix, Pandora, YouTube, Twitter, Flickr, and many other internet contents. With Internet@TV, you can use different widgets to access and customize the internet contents you want. While BD C5500 was merely Wi-Fi ready, the BD C6500 comes with built in wireless capability. With Allshare feature, you can stream media files from your PC to the television set via BD C6500. Samsung is also touting the fast boot and disc load time of 15 seconds. While the boot time isn’t all that important, the advertised load time of 15 seconds is pretty impressive.
Design
The BD C6500 is smaller and lighter than the previous versions. At 39mm, it is very slim and nice looking player. The dimension and the overall finish are identical to the BD C5500. The LCD is located in the middle with playback functions located on the right side. Samsung included 2 USB ports with one on the front of the player. There is a small cover that conceals the USB port. The back of the player includes the Ethernet, HDMI, and USB port. The standard definition AV ports are present. This includes component out as well as Digital and optical audio out. Unlike BD-C5500, the BD-C6500 comes with analog 7.1 channel audio output. The included remote is a very adequate unit. Buttons are well placed and are designed to be easily operable by anyone. The touch sensitive buttons are nice addition.
Performance and Video
The stated booting and loading time of 15 seconds were fairly accurate. Generally, from power on to viewing the disc took somewhere between 25 -40 seconds on average. This is fairly fast compared to some players that take minute or more from power on to start of the movie. The picture quality was exceptional as well. Playback of Blu ray discs showed no moiré, jaggieness, or motion blur. The overall video processing showed no signs of other defects. Tested with The Dark Knight and Iron Man Blu ray discs, the overall video processing did not suffer in anyway. However, the DVD upscaling was different story. One of the DVD showed odd aspect ratio as well as some small upscaling problems. This problem was not present in all DVDs. It could have been an isolated result. Never the less, the overall upscaling quality was not up to par with some of the more expensive players.
Audio
The audio decoding worked as advertised. All the audio formats including the high definition formats worked flawlessly. The BD C6500 handled all the known formats without any problem. The player decoded MP3 format as well AVCHD flawlessly. The 7.1 channel analog output is nice addition from the BD C5500.
Overall Opinion
There are relatively few complaints about this player. The Samsung’s Allshare feature is not so easy to set up. Normal users might have some problem setting up the media sharing features. Samsung seems to have problem with setting up the PC to work with the player. While it can be done without too much problem, some might find it hard to set up properly. One of the more serious problems was the DVD playback. One of the disc displayed incorrect aspect ratio as well as some major quality degradation during the playback. While other DVDs showed no problems, the upscaling quality is not one of its strong points. Overall, it is fairly good player with built in Wi-Fi capability for around $200.

DO NOT BUY if you have an Apple Airport router
Samsung really needs to get their act together in supporting Macs. I wasted hours and hours trying to get this player to work with my Airport Extreme base station. Samsung support suggested I call Apple, basically passing the buck. After fishing through support forums and trying every wireless router configuration imaginable with no success, I packed this player up and am returning it to Amazon. Too bad, because its otherwise a nice player.
It’s clearly not my router’s problem. I replaced this with an LG BD570 and I was online within three minutes of plugging it in. Clearly an issue on Samsung’s side.
Also of note, I own a Samsung 40″ TV, and the software update that you need to download off of their website (and then run on your computer to uncompress it) is an .exe file, which Macs can’t even recognize. Thanks, guys. You’ve shown what you think of us mac users so I guess I’ll return the favor.

Low Price and Great Quality
I had no issues at all setting it up. The WIFI worked great right off the bat with my router, I did a firmware update right at start. It has worked great on disks even the movie “Avatar” which ive heard some people say has had issues on some systems. I would perfer a better remote, and the interface is kinda cheesy. As with other drives ive experienced its got the normal slow bootup on movies but nothing you dont notice.
Plus’s:
WIFI
Netflix services
Blockbuster video services
Easy wifi firmware updates
Minus’s:
Remote Senses kinda slow

Give me a break
I purchased the BD-C6500 along with the Avitar blue ray DVD. Right off the bat Avitar did not play. Tried upgrading firmware and still no go. Call Samsung support and found out you have to hit stop, then menue, then play, to force this DVD to play until they upgrade the firmware. Does anything today work right out of the box? Now it has been 3 weeks later and still no upgrade firmware available from Samsung. I am returning this unit and getting my money back. I am very disapointed in not only Samsung and Fox but Blue ray technology in general. Even after all these years it still does not work 100%. Give me a break all I won’t to do is relax and watch a movie.

Nice Player
All in all, this is a very nice Blu ray player. It boots up extremely quick. The Netflix feature is very nice. I own a Samsung LED TV as well and the picture is excellent. The only problem I’ve had with this player is it’s failure to play the Blu ray version of Avatar. I purchased Avatar on Blu ray the day it was released and when I put the disk in it goes to a red screen that says “your player required an update”. Unfortunately, Samsung has yet to release an update for this particular model. Another great feature is Samsung’s PC Share. This allows you to view videos, pictures, and listen to music that you have stored on your PC, through your Blu ray player. Of course, you will have to have then networked together for this to work. I would definitely recommend this player to anyone.

Excellent mid-level Blu-ray player!
As they say, “You get what you pay for!” The C6500 is that and more. Yes, it is not perfect, but what is at this price point? The setup was a snap–only 8 minutes, including the WiFi and 1010.4 firmware update for Avatar!!! The remote is fine, albeit a bit too big with the large numeric keypad, and the enter button could be a bit larger. If you have an non-HDMI receiver be forewarned the audio will only be DTS, and not HD in any form. For HD Audio you need to have an HDMI pass-thru receiver and the latest HDMI 1.3 cables. You can get 7.1 audio thru the analog outputs of the C6500, but who wants to use, or has, all the necessary RCA cables? The C6500 plays all my Blu-rays and DVDs just fine. However, I did have the issue with Avatar, which is a pain, but it works if you have patience. Avatar takes a pretty long time to load, but other Blu-ray discs and DVDs play almost instantly, and the DVD upscaling is about the best I have seen. All-in-all, I am very happy with my purchase. Now is the time to buy your first Blu-ray player (the C5500 which does not have WiFi would be a good candidate and is about $60 less)if you have been hesitating, something I could not say a couple of years ago, considering the frustration with my “old” Samsung P-1400 and its frequent firmware upgrades. Sadly/Happily the days of DVD players are numbered.

Blu-Ray is a developing technology…
I really overall like this product alot. I don’t have much to compare it to, but the ability to stream movies from Netflix is awesome. I’ve watched several movies so far, most of them showing in High Definition. I did have to return my first Samsung BD-C6500 because it would skip when playing certain CD’s and blu-ray movies. Amazon was amazing in their replacement process – I was without my BD player for literally one day before the replacement arrived. Excellent customer service.
This replacement blu-ray does not skip the way the other one did, but still has issues streaming certain movies from Netflix–I’m beginning to think that the Blu-Ray technology is still developing, especially when it comes to playing movies/CDs of less quality than the latest blu-ray discs. You do have to make sure you upgrade your BD player with the latest firmware, which is very easy with this product because of the Wi-Fi capabilities.
I do recommend this product – great capabilities for a good price. I recommend making sure you have a Samsung HD TV to match. The remote controls operate very similar functions, and you can use the BD player remote to adjust the volume, “source” control, and settings. The remotes look alot alike, which is a little confusing, but not a big deal.
Good product, good company.

Very nice unit
I really liked this unit. I also bought one where the wireless was optional. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND you buy this Blu ray player if you have a wireless network and desire to watch Netflix, Blockbuster, etc. via streaming video. It is really, really cool.
The set up of this Blu ray was very easy following the onscreen instructions. It seems to particularly work well with my Samsung TV.

Why the Limits?
It’s not a gripe specific to JUST this player, it’s the whole blu-ray wifi player group. Why is that you can only subscribe to a couple services? My wife bought this player at the big blue box, but it seems silly to not be able add Amazon, or whatever.
I know, I know, every thing is a money deal, and contract exclusivity is in place, but doesn’t open-app actually benefit everybody?? The owner of the equipment, the seller of the equipment, the people who produce and sell all the entertainment products?
It all seems so short-sided that a small group of people signing exclusivity contracts will make money just to impose limits on these products. Absurd. This is the kind of thing that made me stop buying Sony junk years ago.
The result will be that I will limit what I purchase/play on this player.
Other than that, the player works, it boots up fast enough for me, the menu system is dumb (most players use dumb menus, so you can’t escape it), I hooked into my wifi easily enough – slap your wife’s hand because she is going to try and stuff a disc in the player while you are going through set-up – THAT is a big no-no. Not sure why I have to login to the anynet feature each time. I own the freakin player, and it’s on my network, so enough already.
Make this stuff friendlier, simpler, and less restrictive.

Very Nice
I bought this unit because I wanted my older DVDs upconverted to 1080p and when I rent movies I want to see them on Blu-ray.
It does the job just fine.
The internet hookup is great too, although I find I don’t use it much.

Nice product
This blu-ray player was easy to set up and performs well. The playback quality of the blu-ray dvd was excellent. I rented the Lord of the Rings Return of the King and the quality was great. It connects to my router easily every time and it streams from Netflix with ease. The quality of the Netflix movies is surprisingly good. I strongly recommend this player.

Good choice for my first player
I read many reviews on this Blu-ray player before buying the product, concluding most people either loved or hated it. Common problems seem to be DOA (mine worked), problems w/wireless networking (mine worked after a bit of fiddling) and issues with the various streaming applications.
The player was very easy to set up/hook up. (NOTE: DO NOT be tricked into buying “Monster” cables. Plan a couple days ahead and by one online for $10 or less.) It works well with my Samsung TV, sharing -most- functions on the remotes (but not all).
I had some trouble setting up the network, so while I was reading the manual my GF got that working. Thanks, sweetie! We use U-Verse from AT&T.
The firmware upgrades took a few tries to get them to work but they did. Also took 2-3 tries to get the update for Avatar to work but it ultimately did.
Blu-ray movies look great. We signed up for Netflix and have streamed a couple of movies – NOT great quality – fast-moving objects are very “jerky”. I have not tried Vudu or Pandora – not much interested in them. Overall, for my first Blu-ray player, I’m satisfied so far.

Won’t Play ANY DVDs!
Set up was easy EXCEPT for trying to input password for our wireless network with the remote control. Took 2 hours to get it right. Although I got the latest download, it wouldn’t play ANY dvds and some blu-rays. The picture quality on the few BDs that did play was great. Their technical support was no help at all!! Sending back for a refund and will go back to my Magnavox that plays ALL my discs- just doesn’t have wireless connection or BD-live. VERY disappointed as I was under the impression this was a great player at a great price. Will upgrade to a new BD player when my Magnavox dies. Ain’t worth the hassle….

Wifi does not work, horrid customer service
Bought this product 10 April. Physical set up not hard. Good quality picture for a DVD player.
The reason for the bad review is the wifi connection, plus Samsung customer service
a) Wifi setup not simple, but completed. System passed all network connectivity tests with excellent quality connection (from the on-screen diagnostics). But would not connect to the Samsung Internet@TV system, needed for the internet connection & applications. Called customer service. Was told to reset the machine to factory setting and tried again. Same thing — same problem.
b) Called customer service again … So far it’s been 4 times to customer service in almost a month. Customer service has OK hours. But they just read you the manual over the phone, then send you to 2nd level support. 2nd Level support is only open until 530 PM Pacific time M-F, so you can’t contact them unless its a Saturday morning, when they have limited hours. Then they complain that you didn’t call back in 24 hours and they’ve closed out your trouble ticket….
c) So far I’ve been told a) Reset the machine, b) the problem is the Internet@TV server at Samsung and I should try again another day (didn’t work.. and no one at Samsung seems to know if the server is up or down..) c) Its a software upgrade problem and I needed to upgrade the software, so hang up and go do it via the internet and a USB drive, and d) its a Firmware problem, and I need to get the software from the netnet and upgrade via a USB drive, and e) call back again.
d) At this point, I’m rather disgusted with phone customer support. 4 calls, a month later, and they can’t tell me what to do to connect my machine. If you go to the Samsung web site for customer support, it won’t let you leave an email for them. Plus — for those critical software and firmware updates? The connection to download them is down.. you CANT download the critical updates. Very frustrating.
e) Oh yeah.. plays regular DVDs really well. But if you want to play a BluRay disk you need the firmware update. See d) above…
f) The remote? Horrid… In key position, size and layout its identical to a Samsung TV remote. But the functions of the buttons are different. You have to turn on the light and look closely at the little letters on the flat, jet black keys to first figure out what remote you’ve picked up, and then which button to press…
Summary of review: OK DVD player. Semi-non functional Blu Ray player — have found 1 Blu Ray disk it will play. And until they fix the $$%%!! web site to allow YOU to download and fix their firmware and software, its non function as a Blu Ray player, hence the non-functional rating. Wireless internet connection non-functional, even though it passes all the machine diagnostics with an excellent connection diagnosis. See d) above.. And lastly, customer service is fundamentally useless to date, after 4 calls over a month.

A cautionary tale for Macintosh users
I suspect this is a fantastic, five star blu-ray player if you’re a PC user but from my perspective as a Macintosh user I just wasted a couple hours of time that I’ll never get back.
If I’d googled BD-C6500, Macintosh and Airport I could have saved my self a ton of frustration and time by ordering something else. Sure, you can spend some time figuring out a hack to make this thing work if you really have to, but I don’t have to. There are other products out there that don’t treat Mac users like red headed step-children.
Before I go any further let me say that as usual Amazon was fantastic when it came to the ordering process, the price, the packaging and delivery were just what you’d expect from Amazon, not to mention the ease of returns. That’s why I buy from Amazon!
The initial set up went swimmingly until I came to the WiFi network hookup. Let me say first that I have a very strong WiFi network in my house using the ever reliable Apple Airport Extreme. In addition I have a wireless Cannon printer that set up on the first try so I’m no stranger to non-Apple wireless devices. When I got to the WiFi set up on the Samsung I hit a dead end. It was Friday night and Samsung customer support is a Monday through Friday business hour operation. That in it self is weak, they do have 24/7 online chat and I used that much to my frustration. The online chat is slow, I think the person on the other end must have had multiple chats going based on the response time to each of my entries.
The first Macintosh roadblock came when tech support wanted me to upgrade the firmware, since I could not connect to Samsung via the blu-ray player I needed to download a 67 MB file onto a USB flash drive, no problem I had the drive and I have a fast internet connection. Turns out I needed to format the USB device in Windows. O.K. so I’ve got an Intel Mac and a copy of Windows XP. I just fired up my trusty VMware fusion and took care of that little problem. At this point I was getting the idea that Samsung was not Mac friendly. Upgrading the firmware did not help and the support person on the chat could only tell me to phone back on Monday.
The Samsung has a feature called PC Share, allows you to stream from your computer to the blu-ray player. That was one of the reasons I choose this model – guess what? You’ve got to use Windows to utilize this feature. That sealed the deal for me, as soon as I finish this review I’m packing up the Samsung and shipping it back to Amazon. Combined with the lack of proper customer support, the anti-Macintosh attitude of Samsung and the warnings that I probably would not be able to play Avatar on this machine I’ve had enough.
***Here’s an update a couple of hours later. I packed up the Samsung and sent ti back to Amazon, the did some more research and purchased an LG BD570. I will be out of town for a while so went to Best Buy and picked it up. Literally 15 minutes after walking in the front door the unit was linked to my WiFi network, five minutes later I was listening to Pandora Radio and a couple minutes later installed the latest firmware via the WiFi. Lesson learned, if you’ve got a Macintosh avoid Samsung.

The BD-C6500 Blu-Ray Player from Samsung
To start: I’ve had this player, for a month now; but needed an extra long ethernet wire, so I’ve only been online with it for a week now. I chose not to attempt a wireless connection as I hate my router (Netgear) and the lousy company offers no support whatsoever. The internet features work just as advertised. The Netflix viewing experience has been enjoyable; but keep in mind that Netflix offers Starz programming on instant view, but those titles do not stream in hi-def. Most of the titles that are not Starz related, however, do stream in beautiful hi-definition.
I (along with so many others) experienced the problems with ‘Avatar’. It took Samsung’s telephone support personnel about a week to hammer out what the best fixes are. Mine ended up being as follows: First I had to manually update the firmware. If you get this unit new and the software ends in the code 1004.1, then you need an upgrade. The upgrade takes only a few minutes; and the Blu-Ray worked after that. If you get a new warning screen, after the upgrade as I did (a black background instead of red) simply hit the ‘disc menu’ button, on the remote and you should be off to the show.
To finish up: I’m enjoying this player so far. The ‘Avatar’ issue has been my only bump in the road. As always, the technology improves year to year and the prices usually get better. That’s always something to keep in mind. I recommend this player to anyone looking for a midrange price, on a unit that offers pretty much all of the fancy bells and whistles.

big mistake
I wasn’t thrilled to begin with; I agree with those who have mentioned dorky interface and remote and, more importantly, annoyingly slow load and connect times (not only connection to the internet, which I expected, but hdmi connection between the player and the brand new Samsung t.v., which I did not). I also experienced some of the strange disc trouble people have reported (occasional looping back for no apparent reason, and losing resume play feature also occasionally and for no apparent reason). All that said, I was so impressed with the picture quality both streaming Netflix and uploading dvds that I thought I was willing to tough it out. Until I went to try out my first actual blu ray disc (so excited), hit the power button, and…. nothing. What the heck? Checked all the connections, then tried other outlets to confirm: the machine had just died with no warning and for no reason. Stunned, I came back to this page and found a number of reviews (written since I placed my order) written by people who have had the same thing happen to them. The upshot: this machine is just too buggy; Samsung needs to fix it, and you should not buy it.

Feature Rich But Very Slow
I have to say many aspects of this player are very cool.
1.) Built-in wifi, very nice user interface which was pretty intuitive to use in my opinion.
So far the playback quality seems good but is a bit finicky with respect to scratches on the disk. It plays, but with a lot of clicks and stutters. I tried playing the same disk on my PS3 and it played just fine. I don’t keep my disks in a paper bag or anything, but even minor flaws or dust caused problems. As long as the disk is absolutely pristine it plays just fine.
2.) Slow…
Loading disks is slow. The response time to a button press on the remote is terribly slow. This is very frustrating when you’re entering a key for the wireless setup and using the remote’s numbers to enter text (like you’d do sending a text from a phone without a keyboard). You can do it, but I made mistakes related to the response lag when entering the network security keys. Speaking of which…
3.) Wireless setup difficulties
I have a D-Link Xtreme N Dual Band Gigabit Router DIR-825 which is setup with a very basic configuration (one connection to cable modem, 2 wireless clients, that’s it). I tried everything I could think of to get the bluray player to be assigned an IP. It could connect after about 60s of “thinking” but wouldn’t get an IP. Finally I changed the security to WEP, not my first choice, and it worked just fine. The player wouldn’t connect using the PBC procedure either. It’s possible it was my router, but I use a variety of other devices without any problems and my friends are over with their gear quite frequently as well and no problems there. The main reason I mention this is in case someone runs into the same problem. My solution may not be practical in your network but I can have WEP running only on the 2.4ghz network and leave the 5.0ghz networks running more robust security.
4.) Firmware update problems
I’m on the network, selected update firmware and the player worked away without any complaints. Of course the reason I updated the firmware was because I bought Avatar. There’s a notice at the top of this product description and a big sign in BestBuy where I bought mine. After the firmware update I tried to play Avatar and got a red banner informing me that some bluray movies require updates to play correctly. So thinking perhaps there was yet another update I selected Update Firmware again and the player complained that the firmware didn’t match the model number. I used the automated firmware update from the network procedure so I figured it would know what firmware version I needed. Everything seemed to function correctly so I powercycled the player and tried again. The problem went away and now simply said “you have the latest firmware” which is what I expected to see.
Regardless, I still wasn’t able to get past the red-banner page when I tried to play Avatar. So I called samsung and after a long series of questions/tests, was told to return the disk. I returned it and of course the behavior was the same: can’t play Avatar.
**Note: I’ve searched several forums about this problem and I failed to find a solution.
I know Bluray is still -sorta- new, but by now I expected basic funtionality to be really top-notch for something this expensive. $250 may not have been much for a player a couple years ago, but enough time has passed that $250 should buy you at the very least, quick, robust playback. I’ll probably keep the player but I’m not convinced this was the best use of my money.

Not impressed
I won’t belabor the points others have made pro and con about the feature set on this player. But I will affirm some of the problems that have been reported by adding my own experience to the record. I’ve had the player for about two weeks now, and it seems to “forget” my Netflix account info every few days, requiring re-activation. Not a fatal flaw, but an annoying one. I also cannot play Avatar on Blu-ray (released on 4/22), despite downloading and installing the most recent firmware update as of 4/24/10. So bottom line – neither the Blu-ray or Netflix implementations function optimally in my experience. I’m seriously considering returning the unit at this point. I just wish there was a clearly superior alternative available.

Better than the last generation
This is the second Samsung Blue Ray player that I have purchased. This one is the newer version of model which I purchased a couple of years ago. They have improved the wireless feature by adding that to the internal mechanisms so that a wireless card is not needed. The picture quality and ease of use a pretty good, but it still takes quite a long while to actually watch a Blue Ray after you insert it in the player. You have to wait for the player to scan online apps and other things before it recognizes the Blue Ray and readies it to be played. I’m overall very happy with the product however.

Bad Choice
I bought this player because my older BD-UP5000 Samsung Blu-ray player finally bit the dust after playing a lot of DVD’s but also refusing to play certain HD-DVD’s as well as some standard DVD’s and 2 Blu-Ray DVD’s. So I should have known better I guess because I have had the Samsung BD-C6500 for about 9 hours and it goes back tomorrow! In addition to the player I bought the Avatar Blu-Ray DVD to enjoy this evening. The BD-C6500 would not play it after playing several other Blu-Ray DVD’s I own and tried first as setup tests. It said the firmware needed to be updated in order to play the Avatar disk. So, I updated the firmware to the latest version from the Samsung site. It confirmed the update was successful. Put Avatar in again and — nothing. Turned off the player, let it sit for a while, turned it back on and reinserted the Avatar DVD. Once again it gave me the error message that it could not play this particular Blu-Ray DVD without another firmware update which is not available. I rechecked every setting in the initial settings and confirmed all was correct but still no luck. I had not even reached the point of setting up the Wifi connection, and after reading some of the other negative reviews here I’m glad I didn’t get that far! By the way, it also had trouble settling on which sound format it wanted to use for one of my test Blu-Ray DVD’s resulting in very poor sound from that particular DVD. I read earlier that somebody else posted that this player has limited sound capability. I don’t know whether it actually has limited capability or some other problem but it did have trouble with the sound on 1 of the 4 Blu-Ray DVD’s that did play. I have a Samsung HD TV that I love — but no more Samsung Blu-Ray DVD players for me after being burned twice with similar problems on both Samsung Blu-Ray players I have owned.

This player is a real winner….great product!
Within minutes this player connected to my “G” Wifi system…and I was playing music from my harddrive located in my home office at the other end of my house. I was able to connect to Pandora within a few minutes and am now streaming movies via Netflix with no problems. The remote controls my tv on/off, volume, and signal source. Also this player has picture adjustment built-in. This purchase replaced a 10 year old player…so I am amazed at the new features. I am well satisfied with this purchase and recommend this player as excellent product and a good buy.

Exceeded my expectations
I was a little nervous about buying this after reading some of the earlier reviews, but I took the plunge and am glad I did. I think they probably corrected the problems with some of the earlier versions of this.
I bought this to complement an old DVD play that didn’t always work. The Internet connectivity was an added benefit I didn’t really plan on using, but now really enjoy even more than the DVD player.
I was able to install it quickly, including the wireless connectivity (less than ten minutes). I have a wireless N router, and it works great with it. It only dropped the signal once while sitting idle for awhile, but quickly reconnected on its own. I haven’t had any dropped signals since and have downloaded a number of movies from the Netflix service, which has quickly become addictive.
The quality of the DVDs is good, and is even better when they are Blueray.
The box has a small, flat profile which makes it fit into my cabinet very well. I was able to connect it to my old Sony home theater system (which is ancient), and it works fine.
I would highly recommend this to anyone based on my own experience with it.

Beautiful design and very reliable player!
Very nice design and performance, the best thing is the compatibility with some region free discs from Europe, I really like to buy movies on amazon UK sometimes for better packages or for better prices.
The problem is most of the European region free discs, doesn’t work with players 60hz as the Playstation 3, the Samsung BD-6500 works with 50hz movies! and the best part is that you don’t need a 50hz capable TV! I have tested on my both televisions one capable and other don’t, and on the screen it displays 60hz.
The Samsung convert the content to another frame rate (eg. 60hz) so they don’t need a 50hz compatible TV.
I’m just now enjoying Life (narrated by David Attenborough) from Amazon UK before June 1!
CONS:
I love Samsung but I don’t like the remote control, so I recommend the Logitech Harmony One, I have tested on that player and works great!
NO HDMI cable Included
Don’t buy that player if you are interested more on the apps performance than the blu-ray performance, I think the reviews I saw is not fair with that player, give a one star because Netflix or Pandora doesn’t works perfect is not right!
I seen a lot of blu-ray players more expensive, with out internet, and costumers giving 5 stars, I think the main use of the player should be blu-ray and not netflix or pandora.
Internet apps are a plus, nothing more.
I hope this helps…

All in all good.
Installation was easy (One power coords and one HDMI cable). The internet connectivity seemed impossible for an unknown reason then all of a sudden the connection was made. Hasn’t lost Wi-Fi connectivity yet but seems to dump the Netflix account every couple of days. Then you have to log-on to your internet to re-input the activation code on your netflix account. Don’t know if this is a NF issue or a SMSG issue.
