Pure junk. I have installed the latest firmware updates but continue to struggle. It often requires 10-15 minutes, if at all, before it decides to read a disc. Many times it simply quits in the middle of the movie. The remote control is just something to keep you busy while waiting because it doesn’t work most of the time either.

I am throwing my player away and getting a DVD.

We’ve been having the same problem, as well! Glad to see we’re not alone. I tried resetting it, and am about to try new cables (Sharp’s advice), but didn’t know about the firmware update. May as well give that a try before I toss this junky player into a lake and buy a new one. The whole point of having a blu-ray player is to enjoy movies on our new big screen tv, but this is pointless!

Complete and utter Bullsh*t, on the other page of comments theres 3 post.. 1,4,7 Ignore these comments because they are clearly posted by people who work for Sharp. I’ve done everything possible to get this glorified/expensive DVD player(doesnt deserve to be called a Blueray player)to work.. I have the top of the line HDMI cables. I have a flash drive so its is extremely simple for me to access the new firmware. I’ve called Sharp, They could give 2 sh*ts.

I hope, no Pray, someone reads all theses reviews before they make they same mistake I did. A company that puts this type of product out into the market deserves to go out of business.

“Buyers Beware” this product sucks!
I have a BD210U and having the same problem, could not play the movie AVATAR, contacted the Sharp costumer service, a firmware update was posted on the website but it still does not fix the problem. This is the second Sharp DVD product I will ever buy.

I’ve gotten this blue ray player through qvc and I have to say…I haven’t had any problems with it, and I’ve had it for over a year at the moment. Yes the loading time is slow, but I haven’t had any issues with it playing any number of blue rays or dvd’s I’ve stuck in there. The only thing that sucks is that now that I want to try to stream netflix it doesn’t have a broadband port, but oh well, it’s why I want to get a ps3 haha. A lot of people are having problems, but so far I haven’t had any issues. I haven’t done a firmware upgrade, nothing like that. It works just fine for me.

purchased a sharp 21U a number of months ago, very disappointed, especially since I was so happy with my sharp tv. Phoned sharp a couple of times, felt like they couldn’t care less. Don’t rent bluray discs anymore, frustrated waiting for twenty minutes for player to decide if it will play or not. Buy another brand.

Sharp’s hd-hp21u should just be recalled. That’s what a class company should do. Or at least make a contact with the buyers, also let them know how they will resolve the problem.Anything short of that, shows that the company just doesn’t care about their customers.

This player (BD-HP21U)does not play any of the Disney Blue Ray movies. I have installed the latest firmware update, and it still doesn’t play any of them. I don’t like to buy Blue Ray movies now because I’m not sure they will play on this player.

Sharp sucks nothing made after july will not work. Take them way to long for firmware updates. But this firmware crap sucks to. If this took place during hd/dvd and blu-ray wars we would all be buying hd/dvd
